I am in the Air Force and away from home (TDY) for at least another month. While I have no motivation to paint after long grueling days, I have taken a much needed step back to examine my hobby progress at the year half way point. Let’s take a look at my New Year’s Resolutions and see how things are coming along. One more month away from home and then its back to my wife and hobby!
General
1. I will not buy a new army 40k or Fantasy
I currently have 6 armies, 3 for each system (8k Eldar, 4k Dark Eldar, 6k Space Marines, 8k High Elves, 4k Dark Elves, 4k Wood Elves). I do not need a seventh army, no matter how awesome Daemons look, or the fact that I can use them for both fantasy and 40k.
This is kind of on Track, I have my buddies Chaos Space Marines with the go ahead to paint them up anyway I want. I am really interested in doing a Death Guard army but it would have to be Forge World heavy for me to really get into it. I may get rid of my Wood Elves for some much needed Dark Elf reinforcements, or I may just keep them locked in the closet like the crazy GW horder I am.
Eldar
2. I will finish basing my Eldar up to 3k
I bought the Dark Art Miniature Lava Bases and they have been sitting in a box unpainted for about 6 months. About 60 troop bases, and 6 large bases for Wraithlords and War Walkers.
I have cleaned these up and began prepping for paint. I picked up the GW spray gun and play to start these in August.
3. I will finish painting my Eldar List up to 3k
Everything is 3 color tournament qualified, I just need to highlight all of it.
15% Fire Dragons almost done but I have been seriously dragging my feet on this one.
4. I will finish painting my Scorpion Super Heavy. Even if it will only see 3 games in the next year.
0%, not even primed.
Dark Eldar
5. I will finish modeling/painting/highlighting my Dark Eldar up to 3k
I am currently playing jetbikes with no riders, or riders with no heads/arms, etc. I have been slowly modifying Dark Eldar with Dark Elf parts and I need to just finish it. About 50% is painted to a three color standard, the rest primed black
With the Dark Eldar rumors here and there I have completely abandoned this project. If new models do pop up I will most likely replace my entire collection with the new hotness.
Space Marines
6. I will finish building my Blood Angel List up to 3k
I have 6k worth of hand me down Space Marines I want to turn into Blood Angels. No Drop Pods, no Baal Predators, no Rhinos, no Attack Bikes, and only 5 Assault Marines. I do have 30 some odd scouts, and 20 devastators, and 20 old school small based terminators that I will never use. If GW does drop a new Blood Angel’s codex in 2010, I would love to have this ready to go. I guess this is like buying a new army if you consider all the vehicles I need to find.
Slow and Steady! Since this post I have picked up at least 12k in points worth of Blood Angel goodness. I have started painting some of the vehicles, but with 8 rhino chassis to assembly line I just can’t find the motivation.
Second Half and new Goals
So with the release of 8th edition WHFB my goal is to build up my Dark Elf army to a solid and diverse force. In 7th edition I couldn’t get past my High Elves to play my other elf armies, so my goal is to not even break them out for the next 6 months. I have decided on my DE paint theme and plan to make it my new main army for WHFB. From now until next year I plan to play Eldar and Dark Elves exclusively, unless a new Dark Eldar codex comes out.
I also plan to purchase the Eldar Titan with Sonic Lances, the Cobra Type II, the new Eldar Fire Prism, and a few of the Forge World Eldar vehicle upgrade kits.
